UNDERSTANDING THE REFUGEE CRISIS - 3

ERITREA is a country to the north west of the African continent. Honestly speaking, Most of the people do not know that a country named Eritrea exists, what will they know about the problems it faces. It is known as the country of isolation which is distant to all the western allies. This made the country totally an introvert and succumb to the beliefs and faiths within the country. Ethiopia once occupied Eritrea and there were continuous invasions even after its independence. This led the government to impose stringent law and order in the country. The people who did not follow or opposed the regulation of the land, were lynched to death. All the men and women below the age of 50 are dragged to the military camps and are trained in armoury to be ready for the war anytime protecting the country. The country projects a war like situation always. Every citizen of the country has got to perform his/her duties and never had experienced any rights. The government takes away the people sleeping in the middle of the nights. It is the most censored nation in the whole world. There were no journalists for almost 10 years in that country. Even if someone tries to cover the situation in that country, it is more likely playing with the death as the government there does not permit any media coverage. It is said that the government is turning the country into a giant prison. Due to the humanity crisis in the country, thousand and millions of people are stepping out of the country in search of human rights and freedom.

Due to the NATO operations in the Iraq and the three gulf wars in the country, there was a massive massacre of the commons. This unrest in the country led to the exodus of people from Iraq searching for the new places to live a tranquil and safer life. In the same way, the political instability in Kosovo, by the way of war between Yugoslavia and the Kosovo liberation army led to the migration of millions from that country. In addition to these problems, women trafficking and abduction are common in the way of the great exodus which takes hold of almost 30 percent of the refugees. The atrocities to which the traffickers commit are unbearable and merciless.

The countries which provide home to the millions of refugees are now dried up with their resources to share with more of them arriving there with hope of new life. Few countries hesitate in accepting the refugees with the fear of militancy and anti national elements considering them a threat to the nation.

The interesting point is that, most of the refugees are seeking their homes in EU. But why?Because of adopting a strategy friendly towards the refugees called Dublin policy. The policy states that any refugee who is registered in the arrival country, he is considered a refugee in any country in the EU except for the UK and Ireland. This lets the refugees easily enter the rich countries of the EU like Germany and France. The host countries are in the problems to provide the residents livelihood to the refugees. The employment opportunities, social benefits and the grant of other rights will be a threat to the opportunities for the residents there. So slowly, the countries started to violate or break the Dublin treaty and Germany stood the first nation in EU to break that recently in order to safeguard its own country from the influx of millions of people from the arrival countries like Greece and Italy. Moreover, millions of people vacating their home countries is causing an imbalance in the nature. Crowds of people in the host country on one hand and the mass destruction and deserted home countries on the other.

Then is not there any solution to this problem? There is. But it just does not happen in seconds. It needs the cooperation of the entire world. All the countries should make democracy their political regime and should respond to the people's claims and voices. I do not say that democracy is perfect, as there will be few voices left unheard anytime. But I think that democratic rule of the country is the best of all other regimes. Addition of secularism to the democracy would enable people to follow any religion without being forced leaving people with freedom. This helps people to live and serve their home countries rather than fleeing away and facing the atrocities.
